Indie Conference: May 2018
IndieAuthorCon, DIY Musicians & 20% off BoS Europe
This month we've got updates from CD Baby's DIY Musician Conference, the Independent Authors Conference, Craft & Commerce, a 20% discount for Business of Software Europe (next Monday!), and Sarah Hatter's presentation at BoS 2013 on providing exceptional customer support.
Craft + Commerce is back again on June 29 - July 2 in Boise, Idaho. Run by Nathan Barry and the ConvertKit team, it focuses on bloggers and vloggers, makers, photographers and anyone who identifies as an online creator. This year's speakers include Casey Neistat, Pat Flynn and Maya Elious.
DIY Musician Conference is on 24 - 26 August in Nashville, Tennessee. The conference for indie musicians & songwriters is run by CD Baby, and past speakers have included the CEO of Patreon. There'll be talks about sync licensing and YouTube monetization.
IndieAuthorCon / Independent Authors Conference is happening 2 - 4 November in Philadelphia. Organized by BookBaby, a self-publishing website for ebook distribution and print-on-demand publishing. Speakers in 2018 include Amy Holman Edelman from IndieReader and Joanna Penn from The Creative Penn.

Conference Video Of The Month
From Business Of Software USA 2013, Sarah takes us on an entertaining history of customer service, from the original retail innovations of H Gordon Selfridge through to the Zappos Experience. In a world where customers expect to be treated like royalty and every customer complaint stays online forever, Sarah emphasizes that customer support is just as much a part of the entire product experience as the product itself. Her talk finishes with some support metrics you can track (even on a team of one), and a reminder to make heavy use of customer feedback when considering how to improve what you sell & decide on future business directions.
Call For Presentations
DjangoCon US (San Diego, California) call for
proposals ends June 4. Their audience is Django developers
(unsurprisingly!), and they're looking for talks either 25 or
45 minutes long, or 3 hour tutorials. The conference is on
14 - 19 October:
